Roland TR-707 Sampled Through Stomp Boxes – Free Samples

Roland TR-707

I put together a collection of free samples using my Roland TR-707 and a bunch of stomp boxes (all fuzz / distortion) I had in the studio. I also ran the machine through my RNC (Really Nice Compressor) too for some clean / super compressed beats. I put the samples up for free on GitHub under a repo called OSS which I hope to contribute to more in the coming year with more samples. (Anyone is free to contribute too obviously)

The fun part was pulling out a bunch of stomp boxes and dialing in the best sound out of them for the beat. The only tricky part was figuring out the fastest way to capture the samples from the Roland TR-707 and then spend a bit of time properly cutting them all. After a while though I got the hang of it and was able to move through them really fast. It was a fun experiment and Ableton made the process extremely fast and efficient (and organized).

I also built a Drum Rack in Ableton where each collection sits on a macro knob where you can dial up each sound from the collection bank and use it in one Rack (even more efficient).
